Coffee Machine Water Filter

We all heard about faucet water filters (Wingsol faucet water filter for example), and not so much about the coffee machine water filter. I’m going to explain when, and how to use a coffee machine water filter. Before I start writing, a coffee machine water filter can be used in both, filter coffee makers and coffee makers that are using capsules (cartridges).

Not all coffee makers are compatible with these water filters. Check for your model before purchasing. Some are compatible with Brita Intenza, Philips, Saeco, etc… I strongly suggest checking before deciding to buy.

Why You Should Use a Coffee Machine Water Filter?

Everybody should use filtered water in their coffee machines. It is an important and often overlooked factor in the quality of the espresso, and coffee maker durability. That brings you to the fact that using a water filter shall make your coffee machine last longer than it usually would last.

This water filter is great. You can use it with a coffee maker, or as a water filter to fill the pitcher with filtered and softened water.

Softened water won’t cause damage to your appliance. Coffee makers shall last longer, without calcium and other minerals cloaking hoses inside.

Due to the possibility to leach metals and causing corrosion, using distilled or reverse osmosis water in coffee and espresso equipment is not recommended. Instead, using a water filter is recommended and safe way to enjoy the coffee while taking care of your appliances. If you decide to go with a water filter, you’ll have less scale build-up but the filtered water will not be pure enough to cause damage to metal parts.

OK, now you know why not use regular distilled water. Instead, try to find an appropriate water filter for the coffee maker you use.

To make it clear: Distilled water is not good for coffee makers. Although distilled water is stripped off from two of its essential minerals: calcium, and magnesium, to preserve the coffee machine parts from inside, it is a good idea to use a water filter instead.
